Clubs and other school-sponsored activities are a critical part of our community. Participation gives each student the opportunity to influence school policy, share special interests, acquire new interests, compete against other Chicago school students, and enjoy the company of other students outside of the classroom. Wolcott expects students to make a serious commitment to extracurricular activities to enhance their academic experience.
Officials to Student Government act as a recommending body to the school and as a communications link among the students, the faculty, and the administration. As the entire body has a voice in student affairs, open meetings and forums are held so that all students may offer ideas, opinions, and suggestions.
A wide range of school-sponsored clubs and activities expand classroom learning and offer the opportunity to pursue interests outside of the curriculum. The list of active clubs and organizations develops according to the interest level of the students. The following is a small sample of the active student groups: Anime, Astronomy, D.I.A.L. (Diversity, Inclusion, Awareness, and Leadership), Robotics, Run Club, Learning Buddies, Media, Spoken Word/Poetry, Cooking and Community Service, Ski and Snowboarding, FCCLA (Future Career and Community Leaders Association), Dance, Dirty Worms, FEA (Future Educators Association), Music Appreciation, and Video Production.
Wolcott offers daily after-school academic coaching led by our faculty. Academic Coaches are available to assist students with assignments and foster academic independence.
